Charles Lee "Sam" Bass passed away at his residence in Nacogdoches on November 19, 2016, at the age of 81 years.

Sam was born in Nacogdoches on December 14, 1934, to parents Loren Bass and Mary Kate Bass Olds. A longtime resident of Nacogdoches, he was a dedicated member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Sam was an active part of The Chireno Historical Society, restoring several old homes in the area including a historic log cabin built in 1836. He was a founder of the Nacogdoches Hound and Hunt Club, the old English form...

Charles Lee "Sam" Bass passed away at his residence in Nacogdoches on November 19, 2016, at the age of 81 years.

Sam was born in Nacogdoches on December 14, 1934, to parents Loren Bass and Mary Kate Bass Olds. A longtime resident of Nacogdoches, he was a dedicated member of Christ Episcopal Church.

Sam was an active part of The Chireno Historical Society, restoring several old homes in the area including a historic log cabin built in 1836. He was a founder of the Nacogdoches Hound and Hunt Club, the old English form of fox hunting, and the last original fox hunter of the club. He also enjoyed riding thoroughbred horses, raising cattle, and was an avid gardener.

Sam enjoyed the simple things in life, and he often tried to improve life through his many hobbies. He truly loved to help those around him, touching many lives in his 81 years. He will be missed by those who had the privilege of knowing him as husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend.

Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Loren and Doris Bass; mother, Mary Kate Olds; sister, Billie Loren Weaver and husband Leroy; brother, Cole Bass; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Duane and Sandra Stephens.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Linda Bass; sons, Chad Holt and wife Barbara and Matt Bass and wife Patti; daughter, Heather Holt; grandson, Matthew Bass; granddaughter, Gianna Bass; sisters, Charlotte Kennemer and husband Brooks, Doris Jean Dillard and husband Winston, and Janet Vardeman and husband Randy; nephews, J.T. Kennemer and Luke Kennemer, Loren Bass, Clay, Cole, and Cal Vardeman, , Ron Bass, and Dusty Stephens; nieces, Desiree Stephens and Julia Roberts; special cousins Hugh and Wiley Peebles, Anita Allen, and Ruth Mary White.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2016, at Christ Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches with Father Howard Castleberry officiating. A graveside service will immediately follow at Sunset Memorial Park. A reception will follow the burial in the Christ Church Parish Hall.

Friends and family are invited to visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, November 25, 2016, at Cason Monk-Metcalf.
