Mr. Lindley Rodger Cupps passed away Monday, September 12, 2016, at his residence in Chireno, Texas, at the age of 61. He was born on May 28, 1955 to parents Robert and Jean Cupps in Fort Walton Beach, Florida

He was retired from the U.S. Navy with more than 23 years of service in the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

A funeral service is scheduled on September 17 at 10:00 am at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors. Chaplin Wade of Hospice of East Texas will be officiating. Military Rites by the United States Navy...

Mr. Lindley Rodger Cupps passed away Monday, September 12, 2016, at his residence in Chireno, Texas, at the age of 61. He was born on May 28, 1955 to parents Robert and Jean Cupps in Fort Walton Beach, Florida

He was retired from the U.S. Navy with more than 23 years of service in the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

A funeral service is scheduled on September 17 at 10:00 am at Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors. Chaplin Wade of Hospice of East Texas will be officiating. Military Rites by the United States Navy will be rendered at Sunset Memorial Park following the service.

Family and friends are invited to visitation on Friday, September 16 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Lindley was preceded in death by his parents and oldest brother, Steven R. Cupps.

He is survived by his wife, Patti; daughter Kelly and Randy Smithhart; son, Colton L. Cupps; brothers, Warren E. Cupps, Samuel D. Cupps; granddaughters, Madyson Smithhart, Alexis Smithhart; grandson, Payden Smithhart; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Lindley enlisted in the United States Navy out of high school. He had broken service. His first enlistment was from 1974-1978 during that time he served at the end of the Vietnam War. He served on the USS Rowan (DD 782) from March until December of 1975. Then from January 1976 to May 1978 he served aboard the USS Bigalow (DD 942). In 1978 he left the Navy and worked several different jobs until 1985 when he met his bride, Patti. They were married in April 26th 1986. In January he re-enlisted in the Navy. After attending schools in North Chicago, Illinois and Norfolk, Virginia he was transferred in July 1987 to the USS Leftwich (DD 984) in Hawaii. He served until July 1992 including the Gulf War. Then he went to Afloat Training Group Middle Pacific from September 1992 to May 1995. Then he transferred to the USS Port Royal (CG 73) from November 1995 to December 1998. He then went to Fleet Combat Training Center Pacific in San Diego from January 1999 to January 2002, when he was transferred back to Hawaii aboard the USS Lake Erie (CG 70). He was there until December 2004. He then took a recruiting job at the Naval Recruiting District Houston to recruit in the Nacogdoches/ Lufkin area so he could retire in May of 2006 to live in Chireno, Texas. He recently was working for Select Energy Services in Chireno.
